Credit Cards & MCPS (Mechanical Copyright Protection Society) Fees Explained
Q - Why do I get charged a credit card fee on top of the listed price?
A - Because of the differences in fees with each credit card, we are unable
to place a blanket fee on all transactions. Below is a breakdown of how much
we are charged, and subsequently what we must charge, per credit card transaction:
Maestro Domestic and Solo 20 p
MasterCard 3%
Visa 3%
Visa Debit and Visa Electron 20p
Maestro 4%
JCB 4%
Commercial Cards 4%
In addition, there is a processing surcharge of 10p per transaction.
Q – What is MCPS?
A – MCPS stands for the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society. It is
the UK body responsible for collecting and distributing royalties to composers,
songwriters, and publishers for recording of copyrighted music onto many different
formats. The license that must be paid by all record dealers for digital music
is 8% of their total revenues. This fee is charged as part of the listed price.
