Next up on Intrigue Music is the first in a series of artist collaborations. First to drop is label owner and one half of The Insiders, Ben Soundscape, with a 12” co-produced with US producer Random Movement. After releasing ‘Scotch Bonnet’ on the label in 2009, we are pleased to welcome Random Movement back with two tracks written with Ben Soundscape at his studio in Bristol. With both tracks you can really hear the deep, mellow and subtle vibes both artists have brought to the table.

‘Many Things’ kicks off with a rolling beat and subtle, swirling pads. Lush atmospherics, rhodes piano and a dubby vocal hook are overlaid with double bass and warm organ notes to create a cool, original sounding soulful roller.

‘Perpetual’ has a warm atmospheric feel from the outset, with reversed samples and scattered effect sounds. A pounding beat complements filtering jazz piano, modulating sub bass and soulful vocals. This is musical drum n bass at its finest.

This 12” sees a welcome return to the label by The Insiders. Keeping their releases to just a handful of labels, this single is one of their finest this year, marking a return to the deep, soulful drum & bass they are known for.

‘Limelight’ is a true deep dancefloor roller, which draws parallels with artists like Calibre and Lenzman. Starting out with a beefy two-step beat and warm filtered pianos, the track develops with more piano hooks and extra beat layers and effects. Echoing vocals create a warm captivating vibe, before the track strips right back and drops with a filtered synth bass.

On the flip, ‘Manhattan’ features a sample recorded on Ben Soundscape’s mobile phone playing out of a New York apartment block. Street noise combines with amen beats, sultry guitars and cavernous vocal snippets to create a truly unique liquid filled dancefloor excursion.

As part of the relaunch of our music store, we are proud to drop 'Cairo/Shield' from The Insiders, originally released 2010 on Intrigue Music. The Bristol duo bring slices of quality, progressive drum & bass with an atmospheric feel.

‘Cairo’ is a deep, eerie half-time workout filled with atmospheric, eastern-tinged sounds, a classic stepper that showcases The Insiders’ leftfield, experimental edge to the fullest. This tune has been a firm favourite in the scene, garnering DJ set support from Goldie, Storm, AI and Logistics.

On the flip, ‘Shield’ takes things heavier. Starting out with a simple, penetrating kick drum loop and dark, industrial pads, the track builds steadily into a full blown reese driven roller, complete with fierce drum edits, metallic effects and haunting breakdowns. Minimal, dark drum&bass at its finest.

This single from Intrigue Music continues to push the boundaries of experimental drum & bass.

Intrigue Music is on a roll. Although only launched at the beginning of the year, this latest release from US stalwart Random Movement and fresh UK talent Squash is already the fourth for Ben Soundscape’s lovingly curated imprint.

Scotch Bonnet’ is classic Random Movement: a laidback roller with a soulful swagger that’s alive with lush musicality and riddled with detail. Set to a groove of natural breaks, the warm bass and lazy keys are set afire by a delightful, crooning Jazz vocal. This is a slice of proper ‘liquid funk’ brought bang up to date – a rarity in today’s increasingly minimal D&B soundscape.

With ‘P Style’, Intrigue is proud to introduce the awesome talents of Squash, vivaciously marking the beginning of what’s set to be an exciting year for this London-based producer. Impressively fusing the most modern sounding of bass-led grooves with a reassuringly familiar piano leadline, Squash flaunts his studio skills and sonic insight. Relentlessly interesting and inherently progressive, this is a remarkable debut that refuses to settle in any pigeon-hole.

This latest pair of tracks to come thundering from the Intrigue stable is doing serious damage on dancefloors worldwide.
